Fit at last

Karen Perivolaris transformed her body by signing up for a mini triathlon and was soon hooked!
Karen Perivolaris before & after

The whole ‘get fit for me’ plan started at the beginning of the year when one of my friends/work colleagues asked me to join them in a mini triathlon through work. I wasn't too keen on the idea but gave in after another friend signed up. The mini triathlon was the first weekend in April, and yes, I made the finish line.
After the triathlon, I felt ready for a new challenge. I thought back to a few years ago when my mother-in-law completed the BodyBlitz Challenge and how fantastic she looked and felt after it, and to this day she still does. Could I push myself to do this for the whole 12 weeks?

So I sat down and worked out how long it really was. If I started it on the following weekend I would finish the day before my husband’s 30th birthday. How nice would it be for me to be standing next to him feeling beautiful, slim and sexy for his birthday? The decision was made and I signed up, took photos and measurements.

The same weekend my husband, Nick, bought me a new bike.

I searched the internet for healthy recipes. I have always gone to the gym but never watched what I ate, so I was fantastic at maintaining a weight but not losing it.

After the first two weeks, I weighed myself again and the excitement was uplifting, ‘It's working,’ was all I could think.

I was informed of a bike ride called the Century Challenge, so I signed up, for the 50km ride, a challenge to help get me through the first six weeks.

What a fantastic day of meeting new people and what a great experience for my mind and body.
After the ride, I became sick with the flu and wasn't able to exercise for a week. I became upset with myself but the motivation to get back on the horse was high. ‘Find a new challenge to help you get there,’ was all I could think. So searching around, I found a 12km Bay to Bay fun run on the NSW Central Coast. I signed up and became fitter and healthier as time went on. I completed the fun run and enjoyed every minute, I never thought I could do this but I did. I never wanted to win just, complete it, and I was ecstatic.
My husband’s birthday rolled around and the time was up.

Since completing the Challenge, I am now hooked on little challenges and have signed up for the Hunter Valley marathon, and the City2Surf. Anyone can do this if they put their mind to it.

Exercise is fun and to have friends and family to encourage you along the way is all it takes. I urge anyone to give it a go. Thank you for unleashing a new fit, healthy, wiser and self-challenging me.

The new eating habits I now have and the new body can only get better from here.

You can do it too.
